There is a new kind of famine sweeping through the nation. We are a nation that is overfed yet undernourished. Our bodies are starving. Why? For most, poor digestion means poor nutrient and vitamin absorption into the body. (See also previous post on nutrient absorption)

There are many socioeconomic and ecological reasons that are contributing to this state of affairs but there is one factor we as individuals can address: Our digestive health. This is a bodily function that has a direct bearing on everyone’s health status. Digestion has got to be one of the most overlooked yet highly taxed functions of the body, demanding an incredible collaboration between organs of all shapes and sizes.

One of the key elements of healthy digestion and in turn a healthy body is how well one is able absorb the nutrients taken in. Without good absorption not only does the ability to efficiently digest food break down but all other areas of the body suffer as well. Our bodies need to maintain a delicate nutritional balance to keep our bodies healthy. It will rob nutrients from less essential areas of the body like the bones if a more important area like the heart requires it.

To be more accurate, the old saying ” You are what you eat” should really be “You are what you absorb.” As a result of the large amounts of processed foods that permeate our daily diets, the body is not getting the basic nutrition it needs to maintain good digestion. This is compounded by the regular stressful lifestyles. This gives rise to a negative feedback loop that sticks us in a rut of poor (eventually declining) health. One of the key ways to break this cycle is with pure, high potency nutrition that your body is able to effortlessly absorb. Many of us immediately turn to a vitamin pill hoping for relief.

Unfortunately, if digestive inefficiency is present, the body will have to work pretty hard to get the nutrition from a hard pellet, if at all. This is where powdered vitamin/mineral supplements shine. The ALL ONE multiple vitamin and mineral powders deliver a high potency easy to absorb solution for the poor digestion. Nutritional powders can help stop the poor digestion cycle in its tracks as the body starts to receive the nutrients it requires to produce stomach acids, create energy from food and keep things moving.

Superior Vitamin Absorption with Powdered Supplements

Why a powder? With no regard to age, sex or gender, compromised digestion and poor nutrition are common factors in most people’s lives. For these individuals nutrient supplementation is often an unfulfilling endeavor. They complain of nausea or maybe they just never feel any different. ALL ONE Supplement powders change all that.
Benefits include:

Easy to digest.

Replaces 15-20 pills.

It is easily mixed with any juice.

It is free of sweeteners, flavors, yeast, gluten or colors.

With the addition of a protein food base and digestive enzymes ALL ONE is formulated for effortless, optimum absorption and effectiveness.

Economics also make ALL ONE powdered supplements more appealing than their tablet and capsule rivals. Encapsulating or forming tablets can increase the cost of most supplements by as much as 70%.

Who can benefit from a powder?
The elderly, kids, teenagers, athletes, Boomers and all of us somewhere in between not to mention 20% of the population that cannot swallow pills. For the nutritionally reluctant, ALL ONE powders can easily be disguised in a great tasting smoothie or protein shake.

Don’t compromise.
The food we eat is more processed then ever before and even the fresh fruits and vegetables are coming up with diminished nutrient content as a result of poor soil management. Chronic health conditions are now acceptable nuisances. This is not a situation we must just accept. Our bodies are amazing machines and will respond and adapt to the nourishment or lack of nourishment we present it. Taking a multivitamin and mineral supplement in powder form is the logical progression from food to pure nutritionals. By nature a tablet is not pure and certainly not natural.

So why compromise and take pills when it is possible to get a high potency multivitamin and mineral in powder form that tastes great, delivering you the nutrition your body needs all day, every day. Whether you are an athlete, a 5-year old child or a 90-year old grandmother, ALL ONE vitamin and mineral powders are the nutritional solution that will help your body achieve and maintain optimum health. Because good health shouldn’t be hard to swallow. If you are what you absorb, not just what you eat, then optimal vitamin absorption is key to your optimal health.

Buy ALL ONE powdered vitamins at your local health food store, or order online >>

In an ideal world your child would consume the recommended servings of vegetables and fruits each day. However, we all know that this isn’t always possible. As much as we wish it wasn’t so, children are picky eaters and their eating habits are often far from ideal. A high potency vitamin and mineral supplement can be a great way to fill in the nutritional gaps in your child’s diet. ALL ONE is here to help ensure your family is getting the highest quality nutrients in the right amounts to help achieve optimum health. The best kids vitamins are high quality and also easy to swallow, such as ALL ONE Kids.

Another challenge we are facing in optimizing our family’s daily diet is that our store-bought fruits and vegetables are often picked early, transported long distances and grown in mineral depleted soils. This is compounded by excessive processing, canning and even home cooking which can sap normally nutritious foods of their nutritional quality. White sugar and white bread are both examples of foods that are high in calories and low in vitamins and minerals. Many of the foods available at schools-whether through the lunch line or a vending machine-are far from nutritious. Unfortunately, our children are paying the price. This is why a high potency multiple vitamin and mineral supplement for kids especially is needed these days more than ever.

The Best Kids Vitamins

But how do you get a fussy eater to take a vitamin supplement? Many times it is difficult or impossible to get a child to swallow a pill, much less a handful of them that would be required to achieve the needed full range of vitamins and minerals. A high quality, easy to swallow multi vitamin and mineral powder such as ALL ONE Kids is the answer. You can mix ALL ONE in a smoothie or milkshake or even mask the flavor in their favorite drink (such as chocolate milk/almond/rice/soy). Also, if you are worried about allergies, ALL ONE is hypo-allergenic: it has no extra additives, flavorings or binders and is guaranteed free of yeast and gluten. ALL ONE is pure nutrition with no added sugar or sweeteners.

ALL ONE is the perfect way to help fill in the nutritional gaps in your child’s diet so you can rest assured they are getting the nutrients they need to stay focused and energetic at school and lead happy, healthy lives. Many parents find that after taking ALL ONE their children’s mood and ability to concentrate improved (see testimonial section below). Good nutrition starts at home so start your kids off on the right foot by taking the necessary steps to ensure proper nutrition for the whole family. By starting your children on a nutrition regime while they are young you are helping them to acquire healthy eating habits. With proper nutrition you are bound to notice a positive difference in the way you and your family feels. ALL ONE – Great for the Whole Family, and the best kids vitamins available.

ALL ONE Kids Vitamins is also Certified Vegan, using all natural highest quality ingredients.

Testimonial

“My brother was first diagnosed with ADHD last year. He is 7 years old and already spending more time outside of the classroom in trouble than in the classroom learning. My mom is always one to go the “natural” way whenever possible. So the family made some big dietary changes, which was a little helpful, but the one most impressive thing she did was feeding my brother a big smoothie every morning that contained ALL ONE Rice Formula and Flaxseed oil. Within a week of adding this to my brother’s regular, yet limited, diet we saw a drastic change in his ability to concentrate, settle down with others and just overall be a much more enjoyable person to be around. Since then the rest of the family have joined him with morning smoothies and we are all feeling great. Thank you. I feel that your great nutritional supplement has given my brother a chance at a normal and productive childhood and future.”

Skin – The Body’s Barometer

Image via Wikipedia

Problems such as eczema, dermatitis, acne, dry or oily, and wrinkly skin are a good indication that you are not eating optimally and/or are exposing your body to something it doesn’t like. Nutrient and vitamin deficiencies can often first be noticed in the skin. And when the body is over taxed it is again the skin that will be the classic indicator when enough is enough and relief must be sought.

The skin has two layers. The lower layer is called the dermis. This contains dermal cells from which all skin cells originate, plus a network of blood vessels, glands and nerve endings. The upper layer is called the epidermis, consisting of dermal cells in a protein called keratin.

The dermis consists largely of collagen, a kind of intercellular glue, which gives the skin strength and structure. Woven within elastin fibers, which give the skin elasticity. Collagen makes up 20% of the entire body and 70% of the skin.

Elimination- The colon.

The first stage of skin health is a healthy colon and digestive process. When eliminating correctly our skin is more likely to heal quickly and glow with vitality. When the colon becomes blocked or restricted due to inadequate elimination this can result in the overload of the liver and skin conditions can arise as the body attempts to find other avenues for elimination.

Skin and Vitamins

Nutrition is fundamentally involved at every stage of skin development. Starting with the dermis, collagen is made by the action of vitamin C converting the amino acid proline into hydroxyproline. No vitamin C, no collagen. The flexibility of collagen and elastin fibers reduces in time due to damage caused by free radicals. This damage is limited by antioxidants A, C, E, selenium and powerful phytochemicals found in fruits and vegetables. Vitamin A helps control the amount of keratin accumulation in the skin. A lack can result in over-keratinisation causing dry, rough skin.

The membranes of the cells are made from essential fats. A lack of essential fatty acids leads directly to cells drying out too quickly, resulting in dry skin and excessive need for moisturizers. The health of skin cells depends on sufficient zinc, which is needed for accurate production of new generations of skin cells. A lack leads to stretch marks and poor healing and is associated with a wide variety of skin problems from acne to eczema. Skin cells also produce a chemical, which, in the presence of sunlight, is converted to vitamin D, which is needed to maintain the calcium balance of the body.

A cleansing diet and supplement routine can also be very helpful. Traditionally cleansing diets include 3-5 day fruit and vegetable fasts or weekly 1-day fruit fasts; these should always be done during restful and stress-free times. Alternatively a diet that increases nutritional intake while reducing toxic intake will have beneficial results.

General Guidelines

There are many common nutritional factors in a wide variety of skin problems. To help prevent these problems and maintain healthy skin here are the key diet and supplement guidelines to keep your skin beautiful.

Diet

Limit alcohol, caffeine, chemical additives, salt, saturated fats, smoking and sugar.

Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, preferably organic.

Eat some seeds, nuts or other cold-pressed oil every day.

Drink at least a liter of water a day, neat or in herb teas and juices.

Supplement and Vitamins

Take a complete full spectrum high potency vitamin and mineral supplement. Because nutrients work synergistically (depending on the other for optimum function) a multi-vitamin/mineral makes sure all your bases are covered regardless of your food intake.

Take additional antioxidants in the form of flavonoids. These are chemicals found in plants that have been identified to have up to 10 times the antioxidant activity of vitamins A, C and E. They also give vitamin C a power boost.

If you are prone to dry skin or skin inflammation supplementing borage oil or primrose oil to give the equivalent of 200mg of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) can be beneficial

Fiber – Fiber helps to keep your colon healthy creating bulk for more complete elimination as well as absorbing fats and toxins.

“Friendly” bacteria – The “Friendly” bacteria that are found in the colon helps break down food we can’t digest and produces vitamins such as B and K. Most importantly it keeps the “bad” bacteria under control.

Other

Exercise – Sufficient exercise helps get toxins out through sweat as well as through circulation of blood. It also stimulates the colon and aids in elimination.

Dry skin brushing – Skin brushing stimulates the lymphatic system to drain toxic matter into the colon.

ALL ONE Powdered Vitamins, especially the Fruit Antioxidant Formula, are GREAT for healthy skin.

“After just a week of using this product you may find that your skin is just glowing. I recommend this formula to anyone who is noticing their skin texture and vibrancy is just not what it could be.”

Medical experts have warned us of the health hazards risked by indiscriminate dieting and/or obesity: heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, kidney failure, gall bladder disorders, even cancer. And now it appears that we also risk our mental health, as Psychodietetics has revealed. (See the previous post regarding Dieting and Mental Wellness )

With the multitude of diets being marketed out there how do you choose one that will help normalize, even optimize your metabolism, nourish your brain and keep you happy?

Dr. Cheraskin states that “any adult diet allowing an intake of fewer than 2100-2400 calories a day is likely to be deficient in some of the vitamins and minerals, and essential trace elements needed to maintain mental health.”

That is why if you are embarking on a weight loss regime the quality of your calories is as important as the amount of them. By nature we are more likely to eat less of nutrient dense food than processed foods full of empty calories. Psychodietetics recommends a diet of whole foods while avoiding processed foods whenever possible. This includes avoiding white flour, sugar, soda and all packaged foods. They also recommend a quality, high potency multivitamin and mineral supplement to help bridge the gap of previous deficiencies and to make up for the fact that vegetables and grains created through industrialized farming has less nutrient value than the vegetables and grains of the past.

Thirty years down the road this prescription for healthy dieting is still relevant. That is why ALL ONE multi vitamin and mineral powders should be part of your daily regime and even more importantly if you are one of the many weight loss seekers. Dr Cheraskin said it best “You can diet yourself into disaster, or you can diet yourself into optimal physical and mental health. You make the choice.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New study shows why we can’t “eat just one”

An interview with nutrition expert Doug Ingoldsby, “The Vitamin Professor”

(Jones; “a desire for something that may be sought irrespective of the consequences”, Urban Dictionary)

Obese people often say they would genuinely like to stop eating chips, ice cream, and Ding Dongs, but feel almost powerless to stop their binges.

Now a recent study (by Nature Neuroscience – www.nature.com) suggests why it is that once you get hooked on the stuff, it’s nearly impossible to stop “jonesing for junk food”.

“When lab rats were fed junk food they ballooned in size and eating became such a compulsion that they kept chowing down even when they knew they would receive an unpleasant electric shock if they did so,” says nutrition expert Doug Ingoldsby.

“Meanwhile, rats fed with a well-balanced diet didn’t gain much weight and knew enough to stop eating when they received a warning that an electric shock was coming.”

Ingoldsby says even more startling was that when researchers took away the junk food from the obese rats and replaced it with healthier food, the obese rats went on a two week hunger strike.

So what might this say about human behavior?

“The suggestion is that a diet heavy in highly rewarding foods — quite literally, sausages, cheesecake and other highly processed foods — might cause changes in the brain’s reward system for satiety”, says Ingoldsby. “When that happens, not only do people gain weight, but need to seek out more and more junk food for their brains to signal ‘ENOUGH – you can stop eating’”.

An earlier study by the same researchers suggested that weaning rats off a high-calorie diet might lead to similar effects in the brain as withdrawing from drugs and alcohol.

“It’s hard, but not impossible, to break the addiction to high fat/high sugar foods,” says Ingoldsby.

For those looking for a way to jump off the junk food treadmill, Ingoldsby suggests the following;

Five Tips for fixing your “Junk Food Jones”:

Start feeding your brain. Brain health requires the type of fat found in fish, flax seeds, and grass fed animals known as omega-3 fatty acids.

Consume high quality proteins and fats to stabilize blood sugar levels.

Include plenty of fresh green vegetables and fruits in your daily diet.

Vitamin and mineral supplements. Your body can rebuild years of neglect only if it has sufficient quantities of all essential nutrients including amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids. A good high dosage, balanced multi-nutrient supplement is essential.

Eat whole food, not refined food. Eat fresh food, not frozen. Whenever possible choose raw food over cooked food and choose organically produced foods where available.

Doug Ingoldsby, AKA “The Vitamin Professor”, appeared on the Mark and Brian radio show recently and addresses a question he gets sometimes:

Can’t I get all my vitamins from the foods I eat?

Answer: NO, you’re not even eating food! Doug reveals in this short interview why many modern foods are not really “food” at all and have very little nutritional value. He explains why eating well and smart is becoming more important as well as using a good supplement such as ALL ONE. Both vitamins and minerals are in short supply in the foods we eat and this leads to various health and energy issues affecting millions daily. This short video was just released on YouTube:

Here’s a “glowing” testimonial from a happy customer on Amazon.com – See original review – about the ALL ONE Fruit Antioxidant Formula

By Rebecca Johnson “SeasonedwithLove.com” (Washington State)

“A single scoop of All One 100% pure nutrient powder turns a simple fruit smoothie (or even a glass of juice) into a powerful, one step, all day super charged nutrition program. It’s the food supplement everyone has been wishing someone, somewhere would produce.”

This is a slightly lemony tasting powder that can be mixed into juice. I’ve mixed this into soy milk or milk. This is the fruit formula powder filled with potent phytochemicals and does actually have 1 gram of protein from rice.

To mix this powder fully, use a blender like the Braun immersion blender: Braun MR5550CA Multiquick Professional Hand Blender, White, you can find this here at Amazon. If you are adding fruit to make a smoothie, just toss a scoop of this powder into your regular blender. You can also use a Tupperware shaker or GNC has shakers that work very well to blend this powder into juice. I like blending a level tablespoon of this powder with one scoop of protein powder.

After just a week of using this product you may find that your skin is just glowing. Eating lots of vegetables and fruit also help. Not to mention exercise like yoga. This product contains a blend of tart cherries, wild blueberries, cranberries and apples.

I recommend this formula to anyone who is noticing their skin texture and vibrancy is just not what it could be.

Added Bonus: This company offers a free “scoop and shaker cup” when you provide a proof of purchase. When you write them, ask for a Ingredient Information pamphlet and information booklets about their products. They have some amazing products for all age groups and needs.

There is a purity in their products that makes me feel good about taking the ALL ONE supplements.

How to sell a 5-cent supplement for $1.00

Copyright- February 2003 UC Berkeley Wellness Letter, www.wellnessletter.com

Debunking the wild claims made for supplements is an ongoing battle. The latest cure-all is coral calcium, promoted widely in health-food stores and on the Internet. It’s probably the most expensive calcium pill in history.

Its manufacturers say that coral calcium not only is the best kind of calcium, but also relieves pain and treats some 200 diseases, including Alzheimer’s, diabetes and lupus. Some infomercials and websites even boldly announce that coral calcium treats or cures cancer. Moreover, they claim that people on the Japanese island of Okinawa have long and healthy lives because their drinking water contains large amounts of coral calcium, which makes the water alkaline and balances the body’s acidity. Thus, you you’re supposed to take more coral calcium if your body is acidic. However, if your body were as acidic as some of the labels suggest, you wouldn’t survive long enough to swallow the supplement.

Coral and shells of sea creatures are made of calcium carbonate, the most common and usually cheapest form of calcium supplement (used in Tums, for instance). Coral calcium also supplies other minerals such as magnesium, mostly in small amounts, which you can easily get from foods or a basic multi-vitamin/mineral pill.

There has been little or no good research on coral as a source of calcium or as a treatment for disease. But that doesn’t stop the marketers from making their claims, since dietary supplements are virtually unregulated. You have no idea what’s really in the bottle or if the stuff is safe. Historically, calcium supplements haven’t always been safe: years ago calcium carbonate from bone meal or oyster shells, for instance, was used in some supplements-but was later found to contain high levels of lead. Since then the government and manufacturers too action to reduce lead levels in existing calcium supplements. But new supplements can go untested.

There are, however, plenty of reliable calcium pills. Generic calcium carbonate pills can cost as little as five cents a day, compared to as much as a dollar a day for coral calcium. There’s no reason to think coral calcium is anything magical, let alone better than other calcium sources, or worth the extra expense.

Words to the wise: Yes, Oknawans tend to live long healthy lives and even inspired a bestselling book, which we discussed in 2001. Here’s their secret: diet based on fruits, vegetables and grains (with and emphasis on whole grains), plus fish, small amounts of meat and poultry, moderate alcohol intake (if any), no smoking, and lots of hard work and exercise-not coral calcium.

One of the most common questions asked by consumers of the ALL ONE product line is, “What type of Calcium do we use in our product?” After many phone calls to our chemist and many articles read, we have discovered why there is a controversy. Many articles are written stating that Calcium Carbonate is not easily digested and therefore not the Calcium of choice. This may be true if you are taking Metamucil, Tums or tablets; however, it is not true of the ALL ONE Multiple Vitamin Mineral supplements.

Calcium needs to be bioavailable. Meaning, can the body use it? Certain Calcium is more soluble than others. Soluble means capable of being dissolved. Bioavailability is not the same as solubility. Calcium Carbonate is an insoluble Calcium when put into water. Scientists have found that solubility has nothing to do with bioavailability. Once the Calcium enters the blood, it has to be put to use in the body. That’s the real key to bioavailability. The scientific results of the body using Calcium is that no matter what Calcium is ingested into the body, once it enters the stomach it becomes Calcium Phosphate in the intestine and only then enters the blood. The bottom line is ALL CALCIUM IS CREATED EQUAL in the bloodstream.

It matters less which Calcium you ingest than when you ingest it. Calcium taken with a meal is better absorbed than Calcium taken between meals. Remember that the Calcium in the ALL ONE product is like a meal, because it has chelated Calcium, which means it is bonded or attached to the protein molecules and then vitamins are added. ALL ONE includes protein, minerals and vitamins in every dose, just like eating a food.

One final controversy surrounding Calcium is the ratio of Calcium to Magnesium, should it be 2:1? Most nutritionists believe that Magnesium is necessary for the assimilation of Calcium; however, the amount of Calcium to Magnesium ratio is under great controversy. We at Nutritech feel that the ALL ONE has been tested over time (35 years) and the way ALL ONE is formulated allows for the highest form of the greatest quantity of vitamins and minerals to be absorbed.
